If you’re looking for a place to visit over Easter but don’t want to find yourself surrounded by loud, drunken hordes, skip the beach and consider Mexico City. The traffic will be less frenetic, the air cleaner, the museums and restaurants less crowded.
Here are several places to dine while you are there. These are special event places and are priced accordingly. Reservations are always a good idea, as is dressing appropriately for one of the world’s major capitals—you’re not in Margaritaville anymore.
A wonderful classic for special occasions and a great Mexico City tradition is the San Ángel Inn, in Colonia San Ángel, out by Coyoacán. An old hacienda or monastery, now a luxe destination for weddings and anniversaries, it’s elegant and formal, but like most Mexican establishments, not stuffy or off-putting. Traditional Mexican food is executed well in beautiful surroundings. Also a great option for Thanksgiving, when they do a prix fixe with turkey and all the sides.
