Local golf star gets CNN show

Former world number one golfer Lorena Ochoa is determined not to turn into a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her first child last year.

The Guadalajara-born star has signed up to host a new golf-themed program, “Vive el Golf,” which makes its debut on CNN Español Saturday, March 10.

As well as covering the professional game, Ochoa will give tips and promote the sport to a wider audience in Latin America.

Having won 27 LPGA titles, including two majors, in a nine-year career before retiring in 2010, Ochoa is a well-known name and is certain to draw a large numbers of viewers to the show.

In addition to running her own charitable educational foundation and hosting an annual LPGA tournament in Guadalajara, Ochoa is set to publish an autobiography later this year and is keen to be involved in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, when golf returns as an accredited sport after a 112-year absence.

Ochoa and Greg Norman have teamed up to submit a bid to design the course that will host the Olympic golf competition.

Although no longer a member of the LPGA Tour, she is committed to playing a number of exhibition tournaments throughout the year.
