Although Mexico is unlikely to send any competitors to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia next year, the games will be screened here thanks to communications magnate Carlos Slim, whose company America Movil acquired the transmission rights earlier this year.
The sporting event, scheduled February 7 to 23, will be transmitted on the free-to-air Canal 22, which is administered by the federal government agency, the National Council for Arts and Culture (CONACULTA). Slim has also bought the rights to transmit the 2016 Olympic Games in Mexico, dealing a severe blow to the established duopoly of Televisa and TV Azteca. Canal 22 can be found on the following cable networks: Telecable (Zapopan and Chapala) 122 and Megacable (Guadalajara) 222.
