The Liga Mx pro soccer season has entered the playoff stage with both of Guadalajara’s teams, Chivas and Atlas, still involved.
Only the top four teams in the regular season league table – Cruz Azul, America, Puebla and Monterrey – qualified automatically for the two-leg quarter finals. Teams that finished in positions five to 12 in the 18-team league will face off this weekend in four, one-off wild card games for the right to join the top four in the quarters. In the wild card games, Atlas (7th in the regular season) have home field advantage against the Nuevo Leon Tigres (10th) on Saturday, May 8, 7 p.m. at the Estadio Jalisco, while the Chivas (9th) are on the road at Pachuca (8th) on Sunday, May 9, 9:15 p.m.
Local authorities announced that the crowd capacity for the playoffs will be increased to 35 percent for all playoff games at the Estadio Jalisco and the Chivas’ Akron Stadium (if the team wins its wild card game and advances).
