Lorena Ochoa inducted into LPGA Hall of Fame

Guadalajara native Lorena Ochoa was inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame after the circuit lifted a 10-year requirement for players to be eligible for the honor.

Ochoa won 27 LPGA titles, including two Grand Slams, in a career that lasted only seven years until she retired in 2010. The reason for her retirement, she said, was to start a family.

Ochoa, who fine-tuned her golf talents at the Guadalajara Country Club, was number one in the world for 158 consecutive weeks between 2006 and 2009, and won four LPGA Player of the Year crowns.

In November 2008, she became the host of a new annual LPGA event, the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, held at the Guadalajara Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament help support the Lorena Ochoa Foundation which supports La Barranca, a primary school in Guadalajara with 250 underprivileged students and an innovative curriculum.
