The capacity of the Pan Americano Stadium in Zapopan, used by both the Jalisco Charros and Mariachis de Guadalajara baseball teams, will be increased to more than 16,000, allowing it the possibility of hosting a Major League Baseball series in the future.
José Luis González and Íñigo González, the owner and executive president of the Charros franchise, accompanied Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro on a recent visit with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in Mexico City, where the idea was raised.
González and González presented AMLO—a keen baseball enthusiast—with a Charros retro jacket signed by the Mexican Pacific League (LMP) 2021-2022 championship winning team.
Improvements at the metro area stadium have already started; lights with LED technology will be installed in time for the Mariachis’ first game of the Mexican Baseball League in June.
Neither Alfaro or the Charros’ executives disclosed whether the new investment in the Pan Americano Stadium, which is owned by the Jalisco government, would be private or come from state coffers.
