Mexico’s top amateur soccer tourney concludes

Chapala’s neighbors Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos failed at the last hurdle in its bid to win the Copa Jalisco soccer tournament, losing to Ameca in a penalty shootout in the men’s final last Sunday at the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara.

Meanwhile, Tomatlán defeated El Salto 2-1 in the women’s final.

An almost capacity crowd watched the two finals of what the state government calls “the important amateur soccer tournament in Mexico,” involving teams from Jalisco municipalities.

According to the state government, 114 men’s and 64 women’s teams participated in the 2024 Jalisco Cup, with a total of 3,882 players taking to fields around the state.
