The world’s greatest soccer rivalry is set for a historic revival in March when Guadalajara’s Akron Stadium hosts an exhibition match pitting legendary former stars of Real Madrid against icons of Barcelona.
The game on Tuesday, March 3 is billed as a grand prelude to the 2026 World Cup, for which Guadalajara is an official host city. The “Copa de Leyendas” aims to celebrate the deep history and global appeal of El Clásico, as the game is referred to in Spanish.

Real Madrid will be anchored by legendary captain and defender Fernando Hierro, and World Cup-winning goalkeeper Iker Casillas. They will be joined by three-time Champions League-winning striker Fernando Morientes. Meanwhile, Barcelona will feature the iconic defensive pillar Carles Puyol, midfield maestro Xavi Hernández and Mexican national hero Rafael Márquez, whose career was forged in the local Atlas club before his move to Europe.
