We will go one better,’ coach vows, as Charros begin summer quest

Friday, April 17, the Charros de Jalisco kick off their campaign in the 2026 Mexican Baseball League (LMB), the nation’s summer professional baseball competition — its oldest and undoubtedly most prestigious.

The Charros take on the Acereros de Monclova in search of a prize that has eluded the Guadalajara-based team since it rejoined the league in 2024.

While the Charros have dominated the Mexican Pacific League (LMP) in recent years — they won the 2025-26 title in January — they have come up short in the summer tournament, disappointingly losing to the Diablos Rojos del México in four games in last year’s final series (Serie del Rey).

pg4bPlenty of reinforcements are in place for the upcoming campaign, and manager Benjamín Gil — who has won five LMP titles, three with the Charros, but has yet to land his first LMB crown — is confident of a successful season ahead.

“I predict we will go one better this year,” Gil said.

Jared Walsh will make his debut in the Mexican Baseball League and will be the Charros’ starting first baseman. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter, a native of Brookfield, Wisconsin, has six seasons of Major League experience with the Los Angeles Angels (2019-2023) and the Texas Rangers (2024). His best MLB season came in 2021, when he batted .277, hit 27 home runs, and drove in 98 runs in 144 games — a performance that earned him an All-Star Game selection.

The opening three-game series against Monclova runs Friday through Sunday, April 17–19. Subsequent home series at Estadio Panamericano include dates against Caliente de Durango (April 24-26), the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna (May 5–7) and the Rieleros de Aguascalientes (May 8–10). Game times are weekdays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 6 p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at boletomovil.com.

Home games are played at the Estadio Panamericano, Calle Santa Lucía 373, Colonia Tepeyac, Zapopan (a few blocks from the northern Guadalajara periférico). Parking available.
