Retired Chapala teacher Efraín Gutierrez Ortega, 61, died of a gunshot wound to the head, possibly self-inflicted, in the wake of a violent domestic dispute at his house (shown left) on August 20.

The enraged man shot his wife, Silvia Concepción Rodriguez, three times before opening fire on local police officers responding to the incident.

The woman has been hospitalized for treatment. One of the officers took a bullet in the hand during the fray.
