A long-abandoned school building, located on Calle Niños Héroes a block and half away from Chapala City Hall, is undergoing renovations to house various local government agencies.
Standing empty since 2001, the former General Eugenio Zuñoga primary school is a property pertaining to the state government. Through a loan agreement, Chapala authorities have taken over possession of the facility to carry out extensive repairs and turn old classrooms into offices for public services.
One part of the building will be occupied by the Municipal Archives to hold historic documents and years of government records that have been moved to four different locations over the last two decades. Another portion will be adapted as new headquarters for the Municipal Traffic Department. A separate area is designated for the offices of the Instituto de la Mujer, dedicated to providing counseling and special services for women.
