December 12, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador welcomed former U.S. senator Christopher Dodd and U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar to the presidential palace in Mexico City on the occasion of the celebration of 200 years of bilateral relations between the U.S. and Mexican governments.

Earlier, President Joe Biden had issued a statement extolling the shared values and “commitment to freedom, democracy and rule of law” that both countries enjoy.

In an interchange of letters between the two leaders, Biden highlighted the “tens of millions of friendships and familial ties between our citizens … a connection built over the course of centuries that enriches our societies and strengthens our relationship.”
