The American Society of Jalisco (AMSOC) has announced the final appearance of Guadalajara resident Michael Hogan, a historian and poet who has presented at the venue for 30 consecutive years.
Dr. Hogan will speak about—and read from—his newest book, “Walking Each Other Home: Intimate Conversations on Writing and Life by Notable Poets of the 20th century.” Poets included in his book include Seamus Heaney, Ray Bradbury, W.S. Merwin, Charles Bukowski, Joseph Brodsky, Czesław Miłosz, Allen Ginsburg, Galway Kinnel, Marge Piercy and Jane Hirshfield.
The talk is on Thursday, June 5, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at AMSOC (Avenida San Francisco 3332) in Guadalajara. Free entrance.
Hogan is the author of over 30 books which span history, essays, poetry, and fiction. He is the winner of a PEN Award, an NEA Fellowship, the Benjamin Franklin Award, a two-time winner of the Pushcart Prize, and the Gold Medal of the Mexican Geographical Society. His talk will center on the importance of mentors, how writing can enrich one’s life, and the lessons learned from masters, as well as anecdotes and gossip from the time he worked with them.
