A Guadalajara dance troupe presented a bizarre “Nazi” performance for a competition at a University of Guadalajara arena that ended with them unfurling a huge swastika flag.
The dance group, affiliated with the Autonomous University of Guadalajara (UAG), sparked controversy on social media after a video of the Cheerdance ACMX event was released. The marching and dancing young female performers were dressed in battle fatigues with red armbands. Along with the drumbeat background music, a male voice is heard shouting “sieg heil.”
Event organizer Enrique Casas said the routines were the individual choice of the 192 teams that participated.
But Casas said that organizers may put safeguards on the next competition “to avoid hurting people’s feelings.”
