Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval got a taste of real life this week when he decided to ditch his chauffeur-driven SUV on World Carfree Day and hop on the bus to his office in the Government Palace in downtown Guadalajara.
It didn’t completely go to plan, however.
After waiting patiently for several minutes at a stop on a street corner near his Casa Jalisco residence, Sandoval stuck out his hand to bring a 371 bus to a halt and allow him and other passengers to board.
But as so commonly happens throughout Guadalajara’s poorly regulated bus system, the driver completely ignored the governor’s request and sailed by at a vigorous speed.
“Maybe he was frightened,” commented Sandoval, who was accompanied on the sidewalk by a bevy of amused photographers.
The governor finally got his ride to work aboard a 621 bus, and later tweeted a cheeky greeting to the driver who blanked him earlier in the day.
