President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has jumped the gun by declaring that work on the third Guadalajara subway (Tren Ligero) has concluded and that the service will be up and running in April, reports here suggest.
Lopez Obrador made the unexpected announcement during his regular Monday morning press conference. His comment was confirmed by Javier Jimenez Espiritu, director of the Communications and Transport Ministry (SCT), who noted that the final cost of the federally funded project will be 31.5 billion pesos, up from its original budget of 18.8 billion.Delays and technical issues sent the cost skyrocketing, he said.
