Despite pandemic, film festival goes ahead

The 36th edition of an in-person Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), which has moved its traditional spring dates to the fall, begins Friday, October 1, and runs through Sunday, October 9.

pg5cConsidered the premier film festival in Latin America, FICG is an important showcase for the appreciation, promotion and distribution of Mexican and Ibero-American films. In addition to showing a wide selection of movies for all audiences, FICG serves as a forum for the creative exchange between professionals, filmmakers, critics and students.

The festival opens October 1 at the Auditorio Telmex with a screening of Dennis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic “Dune,”  an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science fiction novel about the son of a noble family entrusted with the protection of the most valuable asset and most vital element in the galaxy. This promising remake of a disappointing 1984 film by David Lynch has already opened in several countries, and will debut in Mexico and the United States October 21.
