The mother of the 16-year-old boy, Salvador “Chavita” Macias Lopez, located last week after being stolen in 2005 as a newborn, has spoken out about her decade-and-a-half quest to find her son.
“I promised myself not to stop until I found him. And I did it, even though the authorities never supported me,” Rosalía López shared on social media.
López said the family received an anonymous call directing them to a spot in the Parque Metropolitano in Zapopan, where they would find clues about their son’s whereabouts.
The family then contacted the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office (FGE), whose officers accompanied the parents to an address in the town of El Salto. After locating the teen, the Jalisco Forensic Science Institute was called in to confirm a DNA match between the parents and the boy.
