Ticktoker receives his comeuppance, or does he?

The young tiktoker known as “Fofo”, who blocked Guadalajara’s Matute Remus suspension bridge with luxury cars in order to record a video, carried out 12 hours of community service this week after he handed himself in to city authorities and issued an apology.

pg4b copyAn Alternative Justice judge also ordered him to pay a 35,000-peso fine, which will be destined for DIF projects.

On his first day of community service, Fofo (real name Rodoflo Martinez), was, appropriately, sent to clean up the area underneath the suspension bridge located at the intersection of Lopez Mateos and Lazaro Cardenas, the scene of his misdemeanor.  City hall employees waiting for him were unable to prevent other tiktokers from recording his labor, turning  the exercise into something of a farce. Videos later posted on social media platforms showed Martinez sweeping the sidewalk, as he joked, “I’m 25 years old, and it’s the first time in my life I have held a broom.” In another take he was seen laughing as he unsuccessfully tried to use a rake to sweep small leaves into a dustpan. He was also seen painting a bolardo (post or bollard), comparing himself to Picasso, and complaining that he soiled his $US1,000 shoes.

In truth, the videos of Martinez fooling around while doing community service will probably only increase his subscriber base, although Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus insisted the punishment did fit the crime, showing  that his administration will not tolerate any kind of disruption of public life.
