Acclaimed pianist returns ‘home’ for reunion with state orchestra

The state-funded Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) will start the new year by showcasing one of Jalisco’s finest musical talents, 20-year-old pianist Daniela Liebman, who stepped into the limelight more than a decade ago as an thrilling child prodigy.

pg3aGuadalajara-born Liebman’s connection to the OFJ began in 2012, when as a shy nine-year-old she appeared as a soloist performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 8.

After further appearances with other leading orchestras, at the age of 11 she took to the stage of New York’s fabled Carnegie Hall to perform Shostakovich’s “Piano Concerto No. 2” in front of an appreciative audience.

Liebman comes from a family of musicians, and began her music studies at the age of three. By the time she was eight she had already turned professional and participated in national and international music competitions. Her early career path was under the tutelage of Russian professor Anatoly Zatin in the music department at the University of Colima.  Between 2014 and 2021 she studied with Dr. Tamás Ungár in Fort Worth, Texas. She currently studies with Yoheved Kaplinsky at the Juilliard School.
