New Children’s Museum delights early visitors

Around 25,000 people visited Guadalajara’s revamped museum for children, the Jalisco Paseo Interactivo (JAPI), during its first two weeks of operation, when entry was free to the public.

pg5aThat was no longer the case as of July 2, when charges kicked in: the admission cost for children under 12 is 75 pesos, and 150 pesos for adults. Persons with disabilities and seniors aged over 60 with an INAPAM credential receive a 50-percent discount. Tickets can be purchased online at boletomovil.com/japi, or the museum’s ticket office. Additional reservations to experience “Werika,” one of JAPI’s star attractions, will soon be available online. This flying theater simulator ride takes visitors on a 180-degree journey across Jalisco’s stunning landscapes. (Great for adults, as well as children!)

During the first few weeks, several of the museum’s interactive exhibits proved to be highly popular among visitors. These included “Lago,” a boat trip taking in the history of Lake Chapala; “Bosque,” an immersive space where the flora and fauna of Jalisco come to life; “Mural,” explaining the symbolic elements of Wixárika indigenous art; and “Arena,” a zone where visitors can test their sports skills alongside some of the most prominent Jalisco athletes.

After closing for renovations four years ago, the museum had operated for two decades under its old name, the Trompo Magico.

JAPI is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. See JAPI on Facebook and Instagram at japipaseointeractive.

JAPI is located at Avenida Central 750, Colonia Residencial Poniente, Zapopan.
