A ceremony held in Mexico City last week marked the 20th anniversary of the designation of the Luis Barragán House (left) as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Acclaimed Guadalajara-born architect Barragán lived in the property he built in 1948 for 40 years. Barragán is regarded as a pioneer in the use of natural light, geometric forms, pure colors and staircases without railings.
He won the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1980. There are also many examples of his work in Guadalajara. The Mexico City house is now a museum.
