Orchid buffs set to gather in GDL

From September 3 to 7, Guadalajara will host the VII Encuentro Mexicano de Orquideología (Mexican Encounter of Orchidology) at the Agua Azul Park and the adjacent Museum of Paleontology.

pg8bThe academic program in the museum will feature six keynote lectures and 28 oral presentations by experts from Mexico, Costa Rica and Germany. The cultural program in the park will include exhibitions and displays in the park’s orchidarium and surrounding areas.  The event will also include a photo contest and a ceremony to celebrate the renaming of the Agua Azul’s renovated orchid garden.

A highlight of the event is a visit to Jocotepec on September 7 to see an example of Laelia yermaniana, a relatively rare species of orchid known for its beautiful and vibrant flowers. This species is native to parts of Jalisco and Michoacán and is characterized by its striking colors and patterns, including shades of purple, pink and white, making it highly sought after by orchid enthusiasts and collectors.
