Multiple options to celebrate Day of the Dead in Guadalajara

Next weekend, Mexican families will honor the memory of their departed loved ones by building traditional Day of the Dead altars and/or visiting gravesites.

pg5aNovember 1 is dedicated to remembering angelitos (little angels), children who have passed away, while November 2 is reserved for older children and adults. The Mexican Día de los Muertos traditions are rooted in ancient Indigenous ceremonies, which later merged with Roman Catholic customs of honoring the faithful departed.

Anyone interested in observing these traditions is welcome to visit local cemeteries and take part in the festivities. It’s a lively, festive occasion, and visitors will not be seen as intruding. However, visitors should keep in mind that most graveyards close at 7 p.m.
