Welcome the Chinese New Year with a performance of the traditional Dragon Dance at the weekly Feria de Productores (Producers’ Fair), held at the Club de Leones (Lions Club) in Zapopan on Sunday, February 2.
The Chinese, or Lunar, New Year begins on January 25 and lasts until the Lantern Festival on February 12. According to the Chinese zodiac, 2025 is the Year of the Snake.
The Dragon Dance is a symbol of good fortune, strength and prosperity, as well as a ritual to ward off evil spirits. This traditional spectacle will be performed by a group from the Templo del Dragón Inmortal de Guadalajara. In addition to the dance, they will present a Kung Fu demonstration, showcasing various techniques and movements.
In Chinese mythology, the Snake represents wisdom, elegance and intuition—a stark contrast to its portrayal in Western cultures, where it is often associated with evil. People born in the Year of the Snake are considered charismatic, intelligent and artistic, though they can also be seen as cunning and mysterious. Your Chinese zodiac sign is the Snake if you were born in 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013 or 2025.
The Feria de Productores is a popular event held every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring vendors offering sustainable, healthy and environmentally conscious foods and other products. Admission is free, and parking is easily available. The Club de Leones is located at Avenida de los Leones 75, Colonia Tepeyac Casino, Zapopan. For more details, visit feriadeproductores.mx.
The Dragon Dance performance begins at noon and will last approximately 45 minutes.
