Anger over cancer drug shortages sparks nationwide protests

On Sunday, June 29, thousands will participate in nationwide marches, urging President Claudia Sheinbaum to address the critical shortages of cancer medications across Mexico.

In Guadalajara, protesters will wear white clothing and carry flowers, and march from the Minerva Glorieta to the Plaza Liberación in the city center, starting at 10 a.m.  The title of the march is deliberately provocative: “No hay medicinas, nos están matando” (There are no medicines, they are killing us).

Alejandro Barbosa, director and founder of Nariz Roja, a local cancer support charity, has highlighted the seriousness of the shortages, noting that hospitals are not only lacking specialized oncology medications but also essential supplies such as antibiotics, saline solutions and even needles.
