Just before the World Cup final on Sunday, July 19, the FIFA Fan Fest in Guadalajara’s Plaza Liberación hosted a mass civil wedding, with 725 couples tying the knot.
Mayor Verónica Delgadillo officiated the ceremony, emphasizing that legal marriage provides juridical certainty and the protection of rights that no other arrangement can provide.
The event featured mariachi music and included diverse couples — from a pair together for 54 years to a same-sex duo who met in the plaza 11 years ago.
