The Jalisco branch of the National Restaurant Chamber (Canirac) says that many eateries in the state will offer free coffee, juice and cookies, or discounts on food, to Mexican citizens who vote in the federal and local elections on Sunday, June 2.
The restaurant staff will know who has voted because indelible ink is applied to the forefinger of all voters, one of the measures deterring electoral fraud. Canirac Jalisco President Gregorio Godoy said the initiative is to encourage citizen voting. As of this week, more than 100 establishments had joined in the promotion, although the number is expected to increase as June 2 approaches, Godoy said.
