Decapitated corpse found in lake

Following the unsuccessful search for human remains sighted near the Isla de Alacranes early last week, a decapitated body was discovered Saturday, October 15, floating offshore near the town of Santa Cruz de la Soledad.

Fisherman at work in the vicinity spotted the nude and headless male corpse tangled up among aquatic weeds. Forensic investigators sent to the scene estimated that the body had been decomposing for approximately three weeks since death.

Authorities indicate that the gruesome discovery may be tied to a massacre derived from a turf war between organized crime groups operating at the Jalisco-Michoacan border line. At least 15 bodies have been recovered from the Lerma River and Lake Chapala since September 29.
