Government transparency in question

Chapala scored a failing grade in the latest evaluation of the state’s 125 municipal governments carried out by Jalisco’s Institute of Transparency and Public Information (ITEI).

Chapala ranks on equal footing with Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos and 33 other municipalities that scored a meager 12.50 out of a possible 100 points.

Jocotepec fared worse with a score of zero shared by the 28 governments ranked at the bottom of the pack.

The agency’s review targeted compliance with the state’s Ley de Transparencia (Transparency Law) requiring publication of the official records from city council sessions, as well as all commissions.

Guadalajara, Tlaquepaque, Zapopan and Poncitlan were in equal first place with scores of 87.50.
