Fiestas Patrias programs in limbo

The Chapala municipal government’s tight finances have put a damper on the planning of traditional festivities tied into the anniversary of Mexico’s Independence.

Chapala officials held a press conference Wednesday, August 28 to announce a provisional program of activities wrapped around the Grito celebration on Saturday, September 15, with live entertainment by local performers starting at 7:50 p.m. in front of City Hall.

Aile Sarahi Ibarra Reyes, Miss Chapala 2018, was introduced as the pert beauty who will be crowned to double at this year’s Fiestas Patrias Queen in the municipal seat.

Monserat Solís Márquez has been chosen to reign in San Nicolás de Ibarra. Ajijic has three young ladies seeking the royal title, while Atotonilquillo has four candidates in the running. Contestants for San Antonio Tlayacapan and Santa Cruz de la Soledad were absent.  Programs for the satellite towns remain in limbo as local administrators await word on slim budgets to be allotted from the strapped treasury coffers.
