As infections with the Covid-19 Omicron variant have been spreading like wildfire in the lakeshore region and across the rest of Mexico, demand for tests to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus have likewise skyrocketed.
The Chapala government reports that 52 employees have now tested positive for Covid, up from 16 just a week ago. That is a clear indication that case numbers reported by state and federal authorities do not coincide with reality.
Since the end of last week huge lines of customers have been seen every day at the white testing tent set up in the parking lot of the local Walmart branch. And business has also picked up notably at most of the area’s diagnostic laboratories.
