More than four months after the June 2 election for the governorship of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus of the Citizens’ Movement (MC) has been officially ratified as the winner following extended deliberations by several tribunals.
The final decision by the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) confirmed earlier rulings by state and federal courts that dismissed the complaints made by Claudia Delgadillo, the losing Morena Party candidate, regarding the voting and counting process.
The TEPJF, Mexico’s highest electoral court, determined that Morena failed to provide conclusive evidence to support its claims of widespread irregularities. Among the allegations were that ballots had disappeared, some vote tallies were incorrectly filled out, and that MC operatives were illegally serving as election officials in district council offices. The TEPJF also rejected the claim that the Jalisco Electoral Institute (IEPC) had undermined the election through bias, considering these accusations purely subjective.
