Lake Chapala Nonprofit Study Group launched

Leaders from 16 nonprofit organizations across the Lakeside area gathered on May 8 at Casa Linda at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) for a presentation by the newly formed Lake Chapala Nonprofit Study Group.

The Study Group was created following an LCS Open Circle TED Talk last summer titled “The Way We Think About Nonprofits Is All Wrong.” Its mission is to unite, strengthen and empower nonprofits in the Lakeside area through research, collaboration, training, donor engagement and collective advocacy.

In the months since its formation, the group has consulted with professionals including accountants, attorneys and nonprofit leaders both locally and internationally. It also held three focus groups with Lakeside nonprofits—two in English and one in Spanish—to identify common challenges and explore opportunities for support.

At the May 8 meeting, the Study Group presented three key initiatives aimed at amplifying impact, fostering innovation, and building a resilient community—while supporting each nonprofit’s unique mission and advancing a shared commitment to service and sustainable change.
