The local singer known as Lola La Tequilera went public this week with claims she has been the target of discrimination and harassment by Chapala City Hall authorities.
The trans entertainer from Jocotepec named Lola López has been a long-time fixture at the Ajijic plaza where she frequently appears on weekend nights to belt out traditional Mexican songs boosted with a microphone and portable speaker.
In social media posts, Lola shared that she has recently been approached by the Regulations Department, which demanded she show a permit to perform and collect tips from the public. This marks the latest chapter in an ongoing dispute with the Markets Department, which began in March when the agency’s head informed her that her hours would be limited to Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with strict volume restrictions on her speaker.
