The Autotransportes Guadalajara-Chapala bus company announced an immediate hike in fares, which took effect as of Sunday, April 12, sparking widespread condemnation and outrage among its lakeside customer base.
The new rates include a minimum charge of 18 pesos for regular full-size buses running any distance between Chapala and Ajijic, even for short rides of just a few blocks. The fare for traveling to and from Guadalajara was bumped up to 63 pesos.
First-class service on Chapala Plus units now costs 83 pesos, and as much as 89 pesos for routes going the full distance as far as Jocotepec.
