Mexico wants to duplicate its trade with the United Kingdom, President Enrique Peña Nieto declared this week after visiting Northern Ireland and London in conjunction with the G8 meeting.
The president held meetings with British cabinet members and spoke to business leaders during his brief trip.
He also took the opportunity while absent from Mexico to announce his intention to submit proposals for the reform of oil monopoly Pemex. While he favors greater foreign participation in the country’s nationalized oil industry, Peña Nieto has denied reports that he wants to privatize Pemex.
