Mexico’s Education Secretary Emilio Chuayffet admitted this week that the free textbooks issued to primary schools for the 2013-14 school year contain 117 spelling mistakes.
“This is unforgivable, but the mistake was not ours,” Chuayfett said, piling blame on the previous administration: “When we arrived they were already in press and there was no way to stop it.”
Although the last administration left office almost eight months ago, Chuayfett said that “it would have been very difficult” for the publisher, the National Commission of Free Text Books, to roll back production and still print the books on time.
