Online take-out eating catching on

Huge United Kingdom-based online take-out ordering service Just Eat has acquired Mexico’s SinDelantal.Mx for a reported 20 million dollars.

SinDelantal.Mx operates in 15 cities, including Guadalajara, and is considered Mexico’s market leader in online food ordering, with more than 3,000 restaurants and over 60,000 orders per month.

Just Eat operates in 13 counties and has over 40,800 participating restaurants, with more than 22,500 in the United Kingdom. It is regarded as  one of the 500 fastest-growing technology companies across Europe.  Just Eat is also growing in Canada, having acquired GrubCanada in 2011 and MenuExpress.com in 2014.

Ordering service platforms allow customers to search their nearest take away restaurants to place orders online, and to choose from pick-up or delivery options.

Both Just Eat and Foodpanda (backed by German venture capital firm Rocket Internet and operating in Mexico under the Hellofood portal) have stepped up their acquisition of smaller operations in a race for market leadership in Latin America.  Hellofood now serves 70 Mexican cities, including Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Tepic and Colima, although industry sources say they clock up less orders per month than SinDelantal.Mx.

SinDelantal.Mx’s founders, Diego Ballesteros and Evaristo Babé, also founded and sold Spain’s SinDelantal to Just Eat in 2012. Rather than retire on their new-found wealth, the pair are slated to become the country managers for Just Eat’s Mexican operation.

Ordering food online

Websites hellofood.com.mx and SinDelantal.Mx have easy-to-use online platforms where users type in their address and food type choices and see the restaurant delivery options near to them.

Categories of restaurants, menu items and prices are clear and easy for those with limited language skills to understand.

The restaurants display their operating times, minimum order prices and delivery fees (if any). Several paying options are permitted, including Paypal and cash.

Both sites feature star ratings for the restaurants based on votes from customers.

SinDelantal.Mx offers service in Guadalajara, and hellofood.com.mx in Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Tepic and Colima.
