Tapatios and area residents will have to wait a little longer before they are able to take their first direct flight to Europe.
Spanish national airline Iberia this month was expected to announce a new, non-stop flight from Guadalajara to Madrid. However, Jalisco Tourism Secretary Enrique Ramos said this week that the route will be put “on hold” due to “a lack of equipment.”
Ramos said he had hoped the route would have been up and running before the Tianguis Turistca (Mexico’s largest tourism trade fair), scheduled for Expo Guadalajara in April.
Ramos said Iberia’s fleet is working to capacity and that an order of new planes from Airbus is pending.
Amsterdam
Aeromexico will launch direct flights from Mexico City to Amsterdam on May 29. The flights will leave the capital on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays and return on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Amsterdam becomes Aeromexico’s fourth direct destination in Europe, along with London, Paris and Madrid. The airline will use 787 Dreamliners on the route. Dutch airline KLM flies daily from the capital to Amsterdam.
