Krause moved to the Lakeside area in 2002 and soon became a popular painter of abstract and surreal paintings. He built his current home in Chapala Haciendas and was acquainted with many Mexican families. A founder of the successful Diane Pearl Colecciones gallery, he aided other artists on their trajectories. He cared for five rescued dogs and two cats.
