Colder weather to come this winter

Temperatures through the first three months of 2016 in Jalisco are likely to be around one degree Centigrade lower than normal, according to meteorologist Ángel Meulenert of the Universidad de Guadalajara.

Masses of cold air will “arrive with greater strength in February and March,” he wrote in a forecast prepared for the state environment agency, Semarnat, in December.

Semarnat’s report also highlights the regularity of thermal inversions in the Guadalajara metropolitan area during the winter months. These keep suspended particles, ozone and other contaminants trapped below masses of cool air.  Semarnat recommends restricting outdoor exercise when air quality drops below acceptable levels.

Meulenert also noted that April and May are expected to be “very dry.”
