With almost no previous notification, the state government last week permitted movie theaters in Jalisco to reopen, albeit under strict sanitary guidelines.
Theaters located in shopping malls, however, will not be permitted to open on Saturdays and Sundays.
Theaters in the state had reopened on June 29 but were closed two days later on the recommendations of the state health council.
This time, once again, experts from the University of Guadalajara expressed reservations about the government’s decision to allow the public back into cinemas. Infectologist Héctor Raúl Pérez Gómez suggested the government should have waited until the epidemiological curve had gone down, when “conditions of absolute control” existed.
