US company sets up shop to handle city’s vehicle emissions tests

Jalisco´s emissions testing program – now known as Verificación Responsable (Responsible Verification) – appears to be back on track following last week’s opening of the first private vehicle inspection station operated by the U.S. company DEKRA.

pg6The Tlaquepaque station is one of six DEKRA stations set to open by May 2021. It comprises seven lanes that will be able to handle 100,000 inspections a year.  Once fully operational, the six DEKRA stations in Guadalajara will have 42 lanes with the capacity of handling 600,000 inspections annually.

Although operated by DEKRA, the stations will be managed by the state’s Secretariat of Environment and Territorial Development (SEMADET). DEKRA is recognized as the world’s leading vehicle testing company, with a presence in more than 60 countries, performing more than 27 million inspections annually, Stan Zurkiewicz, the firm’s chief operating officer, said in a press release.
