Passenger traffic at the Puerto Vallarta airport has returned to pre-pandemic levels, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP), the airport’s operators, reported recently.
The bright news for Jalisco’s tourism sector is that 380,500 domestic and international passengers passed through the coastal airport in June – 10,400 more than in the same month in 2019.
GAP said the greater part of the visitors were from abroad – 221,900, compared with 158,600 domestic travelers.
At the height of the pandemic in June 2020, the number of people passing through the PV airport dropped to a low of 35,000.
Thanks to the encouraging vaccination rollouts in the United States and Mexico, interest in travel to this state’s coastal resorts has picked up significantly in recent months. Under Jalisco’s Covid mandates, hotels are now allowed to operate at 80 percent of their full capacity. Hotels in Puerto Vallarta are currently at 61 percent capacity, according to the state’s Hotel and Motel Association.
