Emissions test enforcement begins

Jalisco’s upgraded emissions testing program (Verification Responsable) finally got some teeth this week, as fines kicked in for non-compliers March 1.

pg3aTraffic cops set up check points as of Wednesday in the Guadalajara metropolitan area to identify Jalisco-plated vehicles with license plates ending in 1 not displaying official windshield sticker (calcomania) and QR code issued after a successful smog check.

According to the program’s schedule, all owners of private vehicles with this plate ending should have taken their rigs for a check during the first two months of the year.  Cars with plates ending in 2 should be tested in either February or March, and 3 in March or April, and so on.

Currently, the obligation for testing only applies to vehicles that circulate permanently (or regularly) in the metropolitan areas of Guadalajara, Ocotlan (including Jamay and Poncitlán) and Ciudad Guzmán (including Gómez Farías and Zapotiltic), as well as Tepatitlán de Morelos and Puerto Vallarta.  Vehicles with plates from other states that are driven on a permanent basis in these places must also obtain a test. Foreign-plated vehicles are exempt from testing.
