Tec de Monterrey helping Jalisco start-ups move forward

A innovative new program unites academics from Guadalajara’s Tec de Monterrey campus with other institutions to help technology-based startups in Jalisco expand and reach new levels through workshops and mentoring.

pg7During July and August, representatives from 20 startups with existing sales or user traction have been participating in a seven-week intensive online course designed to strengthen their skills and help them scale their operations nationally and internationally.

The in-depth Jeei by REDi Acceleration Program utilizes the expertise of universities, governments, and successful entrepreneurs and business organizations. The key areas covered are: developing an entrepreneurial mindset, sales, storytelling, product development and market adjustment.

The course included an intensive in-person six-hour workshop in business English taught by international language specialists Tanya Davis and James Mckee.

The Tec de Monterrey program was developed with the Jalisco Secretariat of Innovation, Science and Technology (SICyT), whose director Nora Martín said the state agency has been working for “more than three years to ignite the entrepreneurship ecosystem throughout Jalisco,” and recognizes “the need to accelerate startups at more advanced levels.”

According to Roberto Hernández, coordinator of the Tec’s AI Hub, the Jeei (Jalisco Innovative Entrepreneurship Ecosystem) online platform is under development, designed to support entrepreneurs in consolidating their projects. It will use “artificial intelligence to perform an initial diagnosis of companies and draw up specific routes for strengthening (their businesses),” he said in a Tec press release.

Hernández said Jeei will “connect startups with programs, funds and services available in Jalisco to overcome the growth barriers they face.”
