A wildfire that burst out in San Nicolás de Ibarra on May 8 rapidly spread to the Cerro de San Francisco, located on the border between the municipalities of Chapala and Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos.
A total of 800 hectares was scorched in the conflagration, 140 of which are located within the Sierra Cóndiro Canales-Cerro San Miguel Chiquihuitillo Protected Natural Area.
