School supply program hits snag

The hand-out of free school supply kits to students enrolled in Chapala area public schools hit a snag last week when the state government failed to deliver its full share of materials. 


Intro to governor spawns community action council

Lakeside community leaders who were invited to attend a luncheon with Governor Aristoteles Sandoval during his August 8 visit took advantage of the occasion to do more than casual glad-handing with the state’s chief executive. They turned it into an opportunity to bend the ear of members of Sandoval’s cabinet, soliciting top-level attention to a variety of pressing local issues.

Weeding out fugitives

In the aftermath of the recent capture of Kenneth James Stopkotte, a man on the run from U.S. authorities who had holed up in San Juan Cosala, Chapala’s immigration chief Juan Carlos Galvan is anxious to pull out the stops to weed out any other foreign fugitives who may choose lakeside as a hideout spot.

US Ambassador connects with lakeside expatriates

During a two-day visit to Guadalajara early this week, United States Ambassador to Mexico E. Anthony Wayne made a quick trip to Ajijic to meet with resident expatriates. The courtesy call with around 100 invited guests took place Monday, August 26 on the grounds of the Lake Chapala Society.
