‘Messiah’ set for Degollado Theater on December 12

The venerable Jalisco State Choir will perform Handel’s baroque oratorio “Messiah” in the Degollado Theater Thursday, December 12, 8:30 p.m. and two other dates In nearby venues.

For all shows, the 21-member choir, with 11 invitados especiales and four soloists, directed by Jose María López, will be joined by a chamber group from the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Jose Luis Castillo.

The performances include 16 of Handel’s 20 choruses including the “Hallelujah Chorus.” The soloists perform eight arias.

Those focused on the fun of a seasonal spectacle rather than acoustics, will enjoy the other performances: Friday, December 13, 8 p.m., Guadalajara Cathedral; and Monday, December 16, 8 p.m., Plaza Liberación.

Tickets for the theater performance will be available at the box office, 333-030-1391, although at press time they were not on sale.
